MDM B. NIYAAN is RUSS LIGTAS is an intermedia performance piece based on Russ Ligtas’ first alter-ego/character that titles the show. The piece adopts the program of an intimate rite, a step-by-step exercise to extricate destructive emotions embodied by this persona, an archetype of the crazed abandoned lover. The performance incorporates Butoh, music, video art, audience participation, collaborations with other artists and the public, as well as appropriations of various material from the artist’s personal journey that informs the performance narrative.

RUSS LIGTAS is a visual artist exploring possibilities in painting, installation, and performance art. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts in the University of the Philippines in Cebu with a major in Painting. He is a member of Cebu’s only performance art group XO? alongside artists such as Raymund Fernandez and Roy Lu. His performances involve character design, poetry, video art, improvisational music, and Butoh. He is a member of the international art association The Academy of Everything is Possible based in Dublin, Ireland, a community that fosters art for spiritual awareness. He is also a member of the open organization of Visual Artists PUSOD INC. as well as the PINTOR KULAPOL Art Group. Russ is a writer and performer of Cebuano and English poetry and other forms of the written word and is a member of BATHALAD INC. and the Really Bad Poets, as well as a contributing editor and illustrator to ZEE Lifestyle Magazine. Russ is also direct action volunteer for GreenPeace. He currently resides in the island of Cebu, the Philippines.
